Manna Christian Mobile Home Park
Tropical Storm Fay

During Tropical Storm Fay in August 2008, the Manna Christian Mobile Home Park in Bonita Springs was given notice that residents must evacuate immediately.  The residents were taken to a nearby community center.  All entry to the park was prohibited due to flooding and contaminated water.  Animal Services Officers were the only personnel allowed inside the park by the Lee County Sheriff's Office in order to rescue animals that were left behind.

Animal Services Officers searched for and set traps to rescue animals that were left without food when residents were forced to evacuate.

The temperatures were in the mid to upper nineties and the smell was overpowering from contaminated water and rotting garbage.

Officers left food in traps to catch the scared cats.  Some retreated to the tops of the trailers where it was dry and they felt safe.

Officers left food each day for the animals they could not catch. It took almost a week to coax some dogs out of hiding.

Officers spent over two weeks rescuing cats.  Over 90 were saved.
