Lilly
Lilly was confiscated on October 7, 2009 and her owner charged with felony animal cruelty. The eight year old American Bull Dog was extremely emaciated, infested with fleas, and could barely walk without stumbling. Although her owner was charged with Third Degree Felony Animal Cruelty under Florida State Statute 828.12 Section 2 punishable by up to five years in prison, a maximum fine of $10,000, or both, he received only a $900 fine and probation.
After examination by the LCDAS veterinarian, who planned a course of treatment for Lilly, she was quickly placed into the agency’s foster care program. Lilly spent the next four months in the Sanibel home of Belen Brisco. As a foster volunteer for LCDAS and a representative of Dogs Deserve Better, Belen also gave her the love and attention she rightly deserved.
As Lilly gained weight and also received treatment for heartworm disease, Belen diligently took her to veterinary appointments, supplied Lilly with a proper diet, and helped her gradually gain strength. During her recuperation the Brisco family also fell in love with Lilly. Their affection was returned ten-fold and they knew she was meant to be a permanent member of their family.
