What To Feed Your Dog

Good quality commercial dog food can be purchased at any pet supply store. Dry food is recommended unless otherwise directed by your veterinarian.  Dry food may be mixed with water or broth.  You may also vary the diet occasionally by mixing dry and moist food together.  Generic food does not typically provide a well balanced healthy diet.  Table scraps and food intended for other animals, will not provide your canine with the proper nutrition it needs to stay healthy. Never give your dog a real bone which may splinter and cause him to choke.

Puppies, eight to twelve weeks old, need to be fed four times a day.   Puppies, three to six months old, should be fed three meals a day.  Puppies from six months to one year, need to be fed twice a day.  One meal per day is sufficient for dogs over one year old.  The amount of food recommended for the size of your dog will be listed on the dog food label.

Be sure your pet has plenty of cool, clean, fresh water.  Dogs also enjoy cottage cheese, cooked egg and cooked vegetables.  However, these additions should not make up more than 10% of your dog’s daily food intake.  Ask your veterinarian for a list recommended foods since some types of food intended for humans can cause illness in dogs..
